1200 V, 15 A fast-recovery rectifier in D²PAK
The STTH1512G-TR is a 1200 V, 15 A fast-recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, housed in a D²PAK (TO-263AB) surface-mount package. It is designed for hard-switched power conversion where reverse recovery charge and switching loss matter — PFC boost stages, SMPS output rectification, and solar inverter freewheeling paths. The 105 ns reverse recovery time (trr) keeps the turn-off loss manageable in continuous-conduction-mode topologies at switching frequencies up to 100 kHz.
105 ns trr — switching loss budget
At 1200 V and 15 A, the 105 ns trr is the parameter that sets the crossover from a standard recovery diode to a fast-recovery part. In a 100 kHz hard-switched boost, each turn-off event dissipates energy proportional to trr × Vr × Ir. The 105 ns figure keeps the switching loss within the D²PAK thermal budget when the copper pad area on the PCB is sized per the datasheet layout recommendation. Below 40 kHz the trr advantage is less critical; above 100 kHz a SiC Schottky may be needed to cut the recovery charge further.
2.1 V forward drop at rated current
Forward voltage is 2.1 V maximum at 15 A and 25°C junction. At 15 A continuous, that is 31.5 W conduction loss. The 15 µA reverse leakage at 1200 V is a room-temperature figure; at 125°C junction the leakage will rise by roughly an order of magnitude, so the thermal design should budget for that increase.
It is ROHS3 compliant. The D²PAK package is MSL 1 (moisture sensitivity level 1) per ST's standard process, so no dry-bake is needed before reflow if the reel seal is intact.
