45 ns recovery — hard-switched PFC and flyback work
The STTH12R06FP is a 600 V, 12 A fast-recovery epitaxial diode from STMicroelectronics, housed in a TO-220 Full Pack isolated tab package (TO-220FPAC). Its 45 ns reverse recovery time places it squarely in the fast-recovery class for hard-switched topologies — power-factor-correction boost stages, flyback secondary rectification, and freewheeling diodes in motor drives where reverse recovery charge drives the switching loss.
600 V blocking, 12 A average — the application envelope
The 600 V reverse voltage covers the 400 VDC bus in single-phase PFC stages with margin for line transients. The 12 A average forward current supports 1–2 kW output power in a boost PFC or flyback converter when the heatsink is sized for the 2.9 V forward drop at full load. Junction temperature is rated to 175 °C maximum — a common ceiling for fast-recovery diodes in industrial power supplies where the thermal cycling between idle and full load is severe.
TO-220 Full Pack — no mica, no grease
The isolated tab (Full Pack) construction means the metal mounting tab is electrically isolated from the die. No mica washer or thermal grease is required between the diode and the heatsink — the package itself provides the isolation, which simplifies assembly and cuts the thermal interface to one layer. The mounting hole pattern is standard TO-220.
The base product number is STTH12, so future date-code or package variants will share the same electrical die.
