Dual 60 A fast recovery diode in ISOTOP — what you need to know
The STMicroelectronics STTH12012TV2 is a dual fast recovery diode module containing two independent 60 A diodes in a single ISOTOP package, rated for a 1200 V blocking voltage. Each diode delivers an average rectified current of 60 A with a forward voltage drop of 2.25 V at that current. The 125 ns reverse recovery time classifies it as a fast recovery device (under 500 ns), suited for high-frequency rectification in power converters, motor drives, and welding equipment where switching losses matter. The ISOTOP package is chassis-mountable, designed for bolting to a heatsink, and the dual-diode configuration lets you build a center-tapped rectifier or a pair of freewheeling diodes from one module.
125 ns trr — the switching-speed decision
The 125 ns reverse recovery time is the headline switching spec. In a hard-switched bridge leg at 20–50 kHz, that trr keeps the recovery charge low enough to avoid excessive turn-on losses in the complementary switch. Compare to a standard recovery diode (trr in the microsecond range) where the same circuit would need snubbers or a lower switching frequency. The fast recovery characteristic also reduces EMI from reverse recovery current spikes, which simplifies filter design.
