It is built with standard silicon technology and specified for fast recovery (70 ns trr), making it a fit for boost PFC stages, output rectification in switched-mode power supplies, and snubber clamping circuits where reverse-recovery charge needs to be low. The TO-220-3 through-hole package is a field-serviceable form factor — no hot-air station needed to swap it on a board.
The 70 ns trr places this diode in the fast-recovery class, not ultrafast. In a 50–100 kHz PFC boost stage, the recovery charge is low enough to keep switching losses manageable without resorting to a SiC device. The 3.2 V forward drop at 5 A is a trade-off — you get faster turn-off than a standard recovery diode, but the forward loss is higher. For a 650 V rail, the 2.5 µA reverse leakage at rated voltage is negligible across operating temperature.
