20 ns trr — the recovery-speed decision
The STTH102RL is a general-purpose fast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, rated 200 V reverse and 1 A average rectified current. Its 20 ns reverse recovery time (trr) places it well inside the Fast Recovery category (≤ 500 ns, > 200 mA), making it a practical choice for 50–60 Hz line-frequency rectification where switching losses from the diode's own recovery are not the dominant concern, but where a standard 1N4007's multi-microsecond trr would create unnecessary ringing and heat in snubber or freewheeling paths.
1 A, 200 V — the power handling envelope
Reverse leakage is 1 µA at 200 V, a low figure that keeps standby losses negligible in offline supplies. The junction temperature rating of 175 °C max gives headroom for derating in enclosed or high-ambient environments.
DO-41 axial — through-hole mounting reality
The DO-204AL (DO-41) axial-lead package is a through-hole form factor that requires manual or wave-solder assembly — no reflow profile applies. Confirm the lead bend radius and stand-off height against your PCB hole pattern; the diode body is not hermetically sealed, so conformal coating is recommended in humid or condensing environments.
