DO-214AC SMA — pad layout and rework
The SMA (DO-214AC) package is a two-terminal SMD with a cathode band on the body. The copper pad area under the cathode tab sets the thermal resistance — for 1 A continuous, a 0.5 in² pad on 1 oz copper keeps the junction below 125 °C. Polarity is clear from the band, and the part lifts cleanly with hot air at 300 °C for 10 seconds without cooking the board.
This diode is in standard production and can be specified into a new BOM without obsolescence risk.
