Why 25 ns trr matters in a 200 V dual diode
Its 25 ns reverse recovery time (trr) is the spec that separates it from a standard recovery part: it lets the diode snap off cleanly at high switching frequencies, minimising the turn-off loss in a continuous-current flyback or boost leg. The common-cathode pair simplifies the layout for a centre-tap secondary or a single phase-leg — one tab connection carries both cathodes, cutting the number of thermal pads in half.
Conduction loss and thermal budget
Forward voltage is 1.1 V maximum at 5 A per diode. At 8 A the drop will be higher, but the 1.1 V figure at 5 A gives a conduction-loss floor of about 5.5 W per diode at that current — the D2PAK copper pad area under the tab sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance.
Package and marking authenticity check
The supplier device package is D2PAK. For a counterfeit-detection screen: the laser etch on the D2PAK body should show a consistent font and date-code format matching ST's plant code for that week — any re-mark or sanded surface is a red flag. The ROHS3 compliance marking should be present and legible.
