Product details

The STPSC15H12G2Y-TR is a silicon-carbide Schottky diode rated for 1200 V reverse voltage and 15 A average forward current, packaged in a D2PAK HV surface-mount case. AEC-Q101 qualification and a 175 °C maximum junction temperature make this part a direct fit for automotive traction inverters, onboard chargers, and DC-DC converters.

Zero trr — why it changes the thermal budget

The datasheet lists reverse recovery time as 0 ns. In a hard-switched boost PFC stage running at 100 kHz, a 15 A silicon fast-recovery diode might dissipate 8–10 W in recovery losses alone. This SiC part eliminates that entirely — the only forward loss is the Vf × If product, which at 1.5 V typical at 15 A is 22.5 W conduction loss. The thermal design can size the heatsink for conduction loss only, not the sum of conduction and recovery. Capacitance at the output is 1200 pF at 0 V bias, 1 MHz. That Coss stores and releases energy each switching cycle; the associated capacitive turn-on loss is still present, but it is typically an order of magnitude smaller than the recovery loss it replaces.

Automotive grade and 175 °C junction — the under-hood envelope

The 175 °C Tj max is the absolute limit for the die — the designer must derate the forward current above 125 °C case temperature per the datasheet curve, but the 175 °C ceiling gives headroom for transient overloads in a 105 °C ambient environment.

Package and mounting — D2PAK HV

The D2PAK HV (high-voltage) package is a surface-mount TO-263 variant with an extended creepage distance between the anode and cathode tabs. For a 15 A continuous load, a 4-layer board with a 2 oz copper pour under the pad is typical.

Frequently asked questions

Is STPSC15H12G2Y-TR suitable for EV onboard chargers?

Yes. The 1200 V rating covers 400 V and 800 V battery bus systems with margin. The zero reverse recovery time and 175 °C Tj make it a strong candidate for the PFC boost stage and the high-voltage DC-DC converter in an onboard charger, provided the thermal design handles the conduction loss at 15 A.
