100 V, 8 A Schottky in a D2PAK — what it handles
The STMicroelectronics STPS8H100G-TR is a 100 V, 8 A Schottky rectifier in a D2PAK surface-mount package. The 710 mV forward voltage at 8 A sets the conduction loss for heatsink planning; the 175°C maximum junction temperature gives headroom for compact designs.
Forward drop and leakage — the efficiency trade-off
At 8 A the forward drop is 710 mV, which is typical for a 100 V Schottky in this current class. Reverse leakage at 100 V is 4.5 µA — low enough to keep standby losses negligible in OR-ing or battery-charger applications.
Package and mounting — D2PAK thermal design
The D2PAK (TO-263-3) is a surface-mount package with a large exposed tab for heat sinking. The tab is the cathode terminal. Board layout should use a copper pour on the drain pad and, if needed, vias to an inner-layer or backside copper plane to keep the junction temperature below 175°C at full load. The TR suffix means it ships on a tape-and-reel for automated pick-and-place; cut-tape quantities are also available for prototyping.
