Dual Schottky rectifier for high-current power conversion
The STPS80170CW: The fast recovery characteristic (≤500 ns, >200 mA) suits it for switch-mode power supply output stages and freewheeling diodes in motor drives, where the Schottky barrier's low reverse-recovery charge reduces switching losses compared to a standard pn-junction rectifier.
Package and thermal integration
Through-hole TO-247-3 package with a common-cathode pinout — the centre pin is the cathode common, outer pins are the two anodes. The exposed metal tab on the back of the package is electrically connected to the cathode, so the heatsink must be electrically isolated or grounded to the cathode potential. The 175°C maximum junction temperature allows operation in high-ambient environments like server PSUs or industrial converters, but the thermal resistance junction-to-case (RθJC) must be derated per the datasheet's thermal model — typically a 0.5°C/W to 1°C/W range for this package, requiring a low-thermal-impedance interface to the heatsink.
