100 V / 6 A Schottky — the power-stage workhorse

The STPS6M100SF is a 100 V, 6 A Schottky rectifier in the TO-277A (SMPC) surface-mount package, built on ST's ECOPACK®2 green-molding platform. It is designed for continuous-conduction-mode PFC boost stages, output rectification in AC-DC adapters, and freewheeling diodes in low-voltage motor drives where the reverse voltage stays under 80 V to leave derating margin.

175°C junction — thermal budget for tight enclosures

Rated for a maximum junction temperature of 175°C, this Schottky can operate in ambient conditions that would push a 150°C-rated part into derating. The reverse leakage at 100 V is 35 µA typical at 25°C, but rises exponentially with temperature — at 125°C junction the leakage may reach several milliamps, so the PCB copper area under the exposed pad must be sized to keep Tj below 150°C in steady-state for a 6 A load.

Fast recovery ≤500 ns — switching loss in perspective

The ≤500 ns recovery time (measured at >200 mA forward) confirms this is a standard Schottky with no stored minority charge — the switching loss is dominated by junction capacitance, not reverse recovery. In a hard-switched 100 kHz boost converter the capacitive turn-on loss is manageable; above 200 kHz a SiC or GaN diode would reduce the loss further, but for the 50–100 kHz sweet spot this part is cost-competitive.

Active lifecycle — no LTB signal, but verify date code

The ECOPACK®2 series uses a halogen-free, antimony-free molding compound; date codes after 2018 carry the full RoHS/REACH compliance.
