60 V, 5 A Schottky — where the forward drop matters
The STPS5L60S is a 60 V, 5 A Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package. Its 520 mV typical forward drop at 5 A keeps conduction losses low in power-supply output rectification, OR-ing diodes, and freewheeling paths — the kind of rail where every 100 mV saved buys you a cooler board and a happier downstream regulator.
Forward drop and thermal budget
At 5 A forward current the Vf is 520 mV max — that's about 2.6 W conduction loss at full load. On a 2 oz copper board with adequate pad, the part handles the dissipation without derating; on a tight layout, the junction temp is the limiter, not the current rating.
Reverse leakage at temperature
Reverse leakage at 60 V is 220 µA — a Schottky's typical trade-off. That leakage doubles with every 10–15 °C rise above 25 °C. In a hot enclosure or near a heatsink, the leakage current adds to the thermal load; budget for it in the worst-case junction temperature calculation, especially if the diode is paralleled for higher current.
