Rated for 100 V DC reverse maximum, the STPS40H100CW gives a 40 V margin on a 60 V rail and over 50 V on a 48 V telecom bus. Reverse leakage is specified at 10 µA at 100 V — a clean number for a 20 A Schottky, meaning standby losses stay low in OR-ing and reverse-polarity protection circuits. In a center-tap full-wave rectifier, the common-cathode pair lets you tie both anodes to the transformer secondary and pull the cathode common to the output rail, cutting the diode count and board area in half.
Active lifecycle — no near-term obsolescence risk on this BOM line
For a production BOM, this removes the sourcing uncertainty that comes with NRND or obsolete power diodes — no scramble for a drop-in replacement mid-program.
Through-hole TO-247-3 — mechanical and thermal notes
The TO-247-3 package is a through-hole, three-lead format with a large metal tab for heatsink attachment. The common-cathode output ties to the tab electrically, so the heatsink carries the output potential — insulating pad or thermal compound choice matters if the heatsink is chassis-grounded. The 175 °C junction rating allows high-temperature operation, but the tab-to-ambient thermal resistance will demand a finned heatsink or forced air for continuous 20 A per diode. MSL is typically Level 1 for these molded power packages; no bake needed before reflow if the bag seal is intact.
