60 V, 3 A Schottky in SMB — conduction loss and thermal budget
The STPS3L60U is a 60 V, 3 A Schottky rectifier in the DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package, specified for fast-recovery applications with reverse recovery under 500 ns at forward currents above 200 mA. Reverse leakage is 150 µA at 60 V, a figure that climbs with junction temperature and can dominate standby power in lightly loaded or high-temperature environments.
Thermal margin — 150°C junction limit
Maximum junction temperature is 150°C. For a 1 oz copper board with minimal pad, the thermal resistance junction-to-ambient (RthJA) can exceed 75°C/W, leaving less than 20°C headroom at 85°C ambient. A larger copper island or a via array under the SMB pad pulls that margin back.
