The STPS3L40UF is a 40 V, 3 A Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics in the SMBflat surface-mount package. It delivers a low forward voltage of 500 mV at the full 3 A rated current, which keeps conduction losses down in low-voltage, high-frequency switching supplies and polarity-protection circuits. The Schottky technology gives fast recovery — under 500 ns — so it handles the switching edges in a 100 kHz or higher DC-DC converter without the reverse-recovery losses that plague a PN-junction diode.
