170 V, 30 A Schottky in a PowerFlat 5x6 — where it fits
The STMicroelectronics STPS30170DJF-TR is a 170 V, 30 A Schottky rectifier in the 8-PowerVDFN PowerFlat 5x6 mm surface-mount package. It is designed for high-current, fast-switching applications where low forward voltage drop and high junction temperature capability are required — typical deployment includes output rectification in 48 V to 100 V bus converters, solar panel bypass diodes, and freewheeling diodes in motor-drive and power-supply stages.
950 mV forward drop at 30 A — the conduction loss number
At the full 30 A rated current the forward voltage sits at 950 mV maximum. That is the figure to plug into the thermal calculation: 28.5 W conduction loss at full tilt, which the PowerFlat 5x6 exposed-pad package must sink to keep the junction under the 150°C ceiling. For a 100 V bus converter running at 15 A average the loss drops to about half, but the thermal pad and via stitch still need attention — the datasheet's typical Rth(j-c) curve for this package assumes a large copper area on the PCB.
150°C junction — the thermal headroom
The maximum operating junction temperature is 150°C. That is a standard ceiling for power Schottkys in this voltage class, but it means the designer must derate for ambient temperature and PCB thermal resistance. In a 85°C ambient server PSU the allowable temperature rise is only 65°C, which forces either a larger copper pour, forced air, or a lower average current than the 30 A headline. The 15 µA reverse leakage at 170 V is a room-temperature figure; at 125°C junction it will be significantly higher, so the standby-loss budget needs a hot-case check.
