450 mV forward drop — what it buys the BOM
At 2 A forward current the STPS2L30A drops 450 mV, a typical figure for a 30 V Schottky in this current class. That translates to about 0.9 W of conduction loss at full rated current — manageable in the SMA package with reasonable copper area, but worth derating if ambient runs above 85 °C. The 200 µA reverse leakage at 30 V is the other side of the Schottky trade-off: low Vf comes at the cost of higher leakage than a fast-recovery pn diode, so the designer should check standby dissipation in high-temperature, lightly loaded conditions.
Fast recovery ≤ 500 ns — switching fit
The Schottky barrier eliminates stored charge, so recovery is essentially capacitive — the 500 ns bound covers the RC tail rather than a minority-carrier reverse recovery. For flyback or boost converters running above 500 kHz, a lower-Qrr Schottky (e.g., 100 V rated) may be a better fit, but for 30 V rails this part is a solid, cost-effective choice.

For dual-sourcing resilience, the SMA footprint is widely used across the 2 A Schottky class; a pin-compatible alternative such as the SS24 shares the same DO-214AC outline and similar ratings, though the forward drop and leakage specs differ slightly — verify the Vf curve against your thermal budget before substituting.
