100 V, 10 A per diode, common-cathode Schottky in TO-220
The STPS20S100CT is a dual Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, pairing two 10 A diodes in a common-cathode configuration within a single TO-220-3 through-hole package. With a 175°C maximum junction temperature, this part can operate in high-ambient environments without stepping down to a lower Tj grade — useful in sealed power supplies or under-hood automotive auxiliary converters where the thermal budget is tight.
Forward drop and leakage across temperature
At 10 A per diode the forward voltage is 850 mV typical — the conduction loss per diode is 8.5 W at that point, so the TO-220 tab must be heatsunk to keep the junction below 175°C. The reverse leakage at 100 V is 3.5 µA, which rises with temperature; at elevated junction temperatures the leakage contribution to the thermal budget becomes significant and should be factored into the heatsink calculation. The fast-recovery Schottky barrier (no stored charge) means switching losses are negligible compared to a PN diode at the same voltage class — the speed is limited only by the junction capacitance, so this part suits continuous-conduction-mode PFC stages and high-frequency DC-DC converters where reverse-recovery ringing would otherwise add EMI.
Package and board-fit: TO-220-3
The TO-220-3 through-hole package has a standard 2.54 mm pitch between leads and a metal tab that is electrically common with the cathode (pin 2). The through-hole leads handle the 10 A continuous current without PCB trace width concerns on the pin itself, but the board traces feeding the anode and cathode must be sized for the full load current. The common-cathode configuration means the two anodes are independent — the centre pin is the shared cathode. This matches the typical layout for a center-tapped secondary rectifier or a half-bridge output stage where the cathodes tie together to the output rail.
