Dual 10 A Schottky in a TO-220 — what this part is for
It is a fast-recovery device (≤500 ns, >200 mA Io), making it suitable for high-frequency switching power supplies, freewheeling diodes in motor drives, and output rectification in DC-DC converters.
The 170 V reverse voltage rating gives headroom for 48 V and 72 V bus rails, and can handle the reflected voltage in a 100 V input flyback converter. The 900 mV forward drop at 10 A per diode is typical for a 170 V Schottky — expect about 9 W dissipation per diode at full load, so the TO-220 tab needs a heatsink for continuous operation above a few amps. The 15 µA reverse leakage at 170 V is a room-temperature figure; leakage doubles roughly every 10°C rise, so at 125°C junction count on several milliamps — factor that into your standby-loss budget.
Package and rework — the TO-220 is your friend
The TO-220-3 through-hole package is about as rework-friendly as it gets. The metal tab takes a soldering iron or hot-air gun without drama, and the three leads are clearly spaced — no risk of bridging. Mount it with a TO-220 heatsink clip or a screw through the tab hole. The tube shipping medium keeps the leads straight, but the parts are robust enough to survive being dropped into a parts bin.
Lifecycle and supply — active, no LTB risk
For dual-sourcing, look at other 170 V, 20 A common-cathode Schottkys in TO-220 from major vendors — pin-compatible parts exist, but verify the Vf and leakage trade-offs against your thermal budget.
