25 V, 15 A Schottky in a TO-220AC — low-Vf rectifier for power supplies
The STMicroelectronics STPS15L25D is a 25 V, 15 A Schottky rectifier in a TO-220AC through-hole package, designed for low-voltage, high-current rectification and OR-ing applications where conduction loss drives the thermal budget. Its forward voltage is specified at 460 mV maximum at 15 A, which keeps the junction temperature rise manageable in a TO-220AC with a properly sized heatsink.
Forward drop and reverse leakage — the thermal trade-off
At 15 A the Vf max of 460 mV is competitive for a 25 V Schottky, but the reverse leakage at 25 V is 1.3 mA — this leakage doubles as junction temperature approaches the 150 °C maximum, so the heatsink must keep Tj well below the ceiling to avoid thermal runaway.
Through-hole mounting and thermal interface
The TO-220AC package with a metal tab allows the diode to be bolted to a heatsink or chassis — the tab is the cathode, so the mounting surface is at the output potential.
ROHS3 compliant.
