120 V, 10 A Schottky — the power-stage fit
The STPS10M120SF is a 120 V, 10 A Schottky rectifier from STMicroelectronics, part of the ECOPACK®2 series.
Forward drop and reverse leakage — the thermal trade-off
At 120 V reverse bias, reverse leakage is 25 µA typical. That leakage current climbs with junction temperature and eats into your thermal budget above 100 °C. The 820 mV forward drop at 10 A is the spec to use for worst-case conduction loss calculations. The fast recovery spec — under 500 ns at over 200 mA — means this diode handles the reverse-recovery charge in a hard-switching converter without the snap-off noise of a slower part.
TO-277A (SMPC) — footprint and rework
Packaged in a TO-277A (SMPC) surface-mount case — a 3-lead PowerDFN with an exposed paddle on the bottom. The paddle is the cathode, so your PCB thermal pad connects directly to the output rail. Reflow profile follows standard lead-free solder; the exposed pad needs a solder paste stencil aperture that covers at least 50% of the pad area for void-free thermal transfer. Mounting type is surface mount — no through-hole option.
