200 V, 75 A N-Channel MOSFET — STripFET™ generation
The STP75NF20 is a 200 V, 75 A N-channel power MOSFET from STMicroelectronics' STripFET™ series, built on a planar technology that delivers low on-resistance and fast switching. Housed in the through-hole TO-220-3 package, it is a common choice for power supplies, motor drives, and DC-DC converters where the 200 V drain-source rating provides headroom on a 48 V or 72 V bus.
75 A continuous drain — what the rating really means
The 75 A continuous drain current is specified at a case temperature of 25°C (Tc), not ambient. In a real enclosure, the achievable current is derated by the junction-to-case thermal resistance and the 190 W power dissipation ceiling. The 34 mOhm Rds(on) at 37 A means I²R loss at 37 A is about 47 W, which the TO-220 package can handle with an adequate heatsink. For continuous operation above 50 A, plan a heatsink with low thermal resistance and consider forced air.
STMicroelectronics lists the STP75NF20 as Active. Procurement can treat this as a standard-stock line without LTB planning. The TO-220 package and through-hole mounting keep it compatible with legacy and new designs alike.
