The TO-220-3 through-hole package suits designs where a heatsink is mounted directly to the case for thermal dissipation up to 60 W.
The 24 V Vdss gives you headroom for a nominal 12 V rail with margin for load-dump transients in automotive environments, but it is not rated for 48 V or higher bus voltages. At 4.5 V drive the on-resistance is higher, but the gate charge of 27 nC at 4.5 V means a low gate-drive voltage still switches the device with modest drive current — useful for logic-level gate drive circuits.
Lifecycle reality — obsolete, sourced to order
For new designs, a parametric alternative from the same STripFET family or another vendor with similar Vdss, Rds(on), and package should be evaluated.
