16 MHz core, 8-bit architecture — what it means for a low-power BOM
The STM8L151K4T6TR is an 8-bit MCU from ST's STM8L EnergyLite series, built around the STM8 core and rated for 16 MHz operation. It packs 16 KB of Flash program memory, 2 KB of RAM, and 1 KB of EEPROM in a 32-LQFP package with 30 I/O lines. For timing-critical serial buses (I²C, SPI, UART) the internal RC is trimmed to ±1 % accuracy over temperature, but if you need tighter ppm for a CAN or USB clock, budget an external resonator.
ST lists this part as Active. That means no end-of-life notice in the pipeline, no last-time-buy scramble. You can design it into a production BOM today and expect standard distribution availability for the next several years.
Not rated for under-hood or downhole (no 125°C or AEC-Q100 tag), so if your design sees sustained junction temps above 85°C, look at the extended-temp STM8L151x6 variants.
