The STMicroelectronics STM8L151G4Y6TR is an 8-bit microcontroller from the STM8L EnergyLite family, built around a 16 MHz STM8 core. This is the part to reach for when board area is the tightest constraint and every microamp of sleep current matters — the EnergyLite architecture is ST's dedicated ultra-low-power play, not a general-purpose core with a low-power mode tacked on. The internal oscillator trims the external crystal from the BOM for many applications, though the 16 MHz PLL still needs a clean supply rail for accurate timing.
The 1 KB EEPROM provides 100k-cycle endurance for calibration constants or configuration parameters without wearing the main Flash.
WLCSP package — footprint, assembly, and rework considerations
The footprint is tiny, but the trade-off is that the package is essentially the die size — no room for routing escape traces between balls on a standard 2-layer board. Plan for at least a 4-layer PCB with microvias or via-in-pad to fan out the 26 I/O and supply balls. The MSL rating is typically MSL 1 for WLCSP, but verify the reel label before the bake decision.
