What this 8-bit MCU brings to a low-power BOM
The STM8L151G3U3 is an 8-bit microcontroller from ST's EnergyLite series, built around the STM8 core and clocked at 16 MHz. It carries 8 KB of Flash program memory, 1 KB of RAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM — enough for a single control loop, sensor hub firmware, or a simple communication stack. The 18-channel 12-bit ADC on a 28-pin UFQFPN package is dense; it lets you sample multiple analog inputs without an external multiplexer, which saves board space in multi-sensor acquisition designs. Supply range is 1.8 V to 3.6 V, which aligns with single-cell Li-ion or two-cell alkaline battery rails. Connectivity covers I²C, IrDA, SPI, and UART/USART — enough for a sensor node talking to a host controller over a serial bus.
