The 2K x 8 EEPROM on-chip means calibration data, fault codes, or trim parameters stay put across power cycles without an external serial EEPROM — one less part on the BOM.
16 MHz — what it buys you on the bus
16 MHz is a moderate clock for an 8-bit core — plenty for LIN-bus gateway nodes, sensor readout loops, or segment-LCD updates. The DMA and PWM peripherals offload the CPU for motor-commutation timing or ADC scan sequences. With 41 I/Os in a 48-LQFP, you have headroom for a parallel LCD interface plus a few spare GPIOs for diagnostics.
