The 1 KB EEPROM is useful for calibration constants or fault logs that survive a reset, but wear-leveling is advisable if writes exceed 100k cycles per sector. The 25-channel 12-bit ADC provides enough inputs to read a dozen analog sensors plus a few spare channels, while the single 12-bit DAC can drive an analog setpoint or a simple signal output without an external DAC IC. The 41 I/O lines in a 48-LQFP package give reasonable headroom for a keypad matrix, LED indicators, and a parallel LCD bus alongside the serial interfaces.
