48-LQFP automotive MCU with 64 KB Flash and 24 MHz core
The 48-LQFP package brings out 38 I/O lines, plus connectivity including I²C, LINbus, SPI, and UART/USART. This is a fit for body electronics, sensor fusion nodes, and actuator control in passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.
For a production BOM already qualified on this MCU, the immediate concern is securing enough supply to cover the remaining build window — the part is not yet EOL, so last-time-buy windows have not been triggered. For any new design, the sensible move is to evaluate a current-production STM8A or STM8L alternative before committing the layout. No official successor part number has been published by ST at this time.
AEC-Q100 and the 125°C ceiling
The 125°C upper limit covers under-hood and engine-bay environments where the ambient temperature inside the ECU can exceed 105°C. The AEC-Q100 flow includes extended reliability testing — HTOL, ESD, latch-up, and temperature cycling — that a non-automotive part does not see. If the application is not automotive, a commercial STM8S part at a lower price tier would do the same job. But if the BOM requires an AEC-Q100 traceable component, this is the right class of device.
