Peripheral set and I/O — what connects to the bus
With 83 I/O lines brought out to the 100-LQFP package, this MCU can handle a sensor array, a keypad, and a parallel LCD interface simultaneously. The connectivity block includes CANbus for automotive or industrial fieldbuses, USB OTG for host/device switching, and a Quad-SPI interface for high-speed serial Flash or PSRAM expansion. On-chip data converters provide 16 analog inputs multiplexed into a 12-bit ADC and two 12-bit DAC channels, which is enough for current-sense feedback and analog set-point generation without external converters. The LCD peripheral drives segment-type glass directly, saving a separate display driver on battery-powered instruments.
This removes the sourcing risk of an obsolete MCU mid-program and makes the part suitable for both prototype runs and volume manufacturing. The base product number STM32L496 covers a density and package family, so if a future BOM needs a different pin count or memory size, the migration stays within the same peripheral and voltage architecture.
Supply range and power management
Brown-out detect and POR are integrated, so external reset supervision is optional.
