The STM32L011G3U6 is an ultra-low-power 32-bit microcontroller from STMicroelectronics' STM32L0 series, built around an ARM Cortex-M0+ core running at up to 32 MHz.
The Cortex-M0+ core at 32 MHz delivers enough throughput for sensor fusion, basic control loops, and communication protocol handling without burning through the power budget. With 8 KB of Flash, firmware must be lean — think a bootloader plus a single application task, not a full RTOS with heavy middleware. The 2 KB SRAM is tight for large buffers; plan DMA transfers carefully if you're streaming ADC data. The 1.65 V minimum supply is a real advantage in single-cell alkaline or Li-primary battery designs; at 3.6 V max it also works cleanly on a standard 3.3 V rail with headroom for LDO dropout.
It's reworkable with hot air if you preheat the board and use a fine nozzle — the small body heats up fast, but the pad can wick solder away from the perimeter pins if the stencil aperture isn't right. The pad pitch is 0.5 mm, so a decent microscope and a steady hand are enough for hand rework. Will it survive the hot air? Yes, if you keep the nozzle temperature around 350°C and don't dwell longer than 30 seconds.
