The 180 MHz core speed puts this part in the performance tier for real-time control, audio processing, and moderate DSP workloads. With the single-cycle multiply and hardware FPU of the Cortex-M4, it can handle FFTs and filter loops without an external DSP. The 128 KB SRAM provides enough working memory for double-buffered data streams or a modest RTOS heap.
Memory and peripheral integration
256 KB of Flash is sized for mid-complexity firmware — enough for a USB stack, a CANopen node, or a motor-control algorithm with room for field-upgrade staging. The 24-channel 12-bit ADC covers multi-sensor acquisition without an external mux; the two 12-bit DAC channels can generate analog setpoints or audio waveforms. Connectivity includes CANbus for industrial networks, USB OTG for host/device flexibility, and SAI for I²S audio codec interfaces.
The package is surface-mount only. The small ball pitch means the PCB layout should follow ST's recommended footprint and fanout via pattern.
