168 MHz Cortex-M4 with 1 MB Flash — the connectivity-rich MCU for industrial gateways
The 144-LQFP package provides 114 general-purpose I/O lines, enough for parallel LCD, external memory bus (EBI/EMI), and multiple sensor interfaces without a CPLD.
The 192 KB SRAM is split across a 112 KB main block and a 64 KB CCM (core-coupled memory) accessible at full speed with zero wait states — critical for interrupt service routines and real-time control state machines. The 1 MB Flash runs with adaptive wait states (0–4 depending on clock and supply), so the effective throughput at 3.3 V and 168 MHz is about 125 MIPS, not the raw clock rate.
Ethernet, CAN, USB OTG — the peripheral set that defines the part
The STM32F417ZGT6 includes an IEEE 1588-capable Ethernet MAC (requires an external PHY), two CAN 2.0B controllers, and a USB OTG HS with on-chip PHY. The DCMI interface accepts parallel 8- to 14-bit camera sensors, and the 12-bit ADC array (24 channels) with dual DAC rounds out the analog front-end capability.
ST continues to manufacture the STM32F4 series, and the part is ROHS3 compliant.
144-LQFP — footprint and thermal notes
The 144-LQFP package (20 × 20 mm body, 0.5 mm pitch) is a standard surface-mount footprint with exposed pad for thermal dissipation.
