168 MHz Cortex-M4 — what the speed buys you
The STM32F405VGT6W runs the ARM Cortex-M4 core at 168 MHz, which puts it in the mid-to-high throughput tier for this family. That clock rate supports single-cycle multiply-accumulate and hardware divide, so the part can handle real-time control loops — motor field-oriented control, digital power conversion — without a separate DSP. The 1 MB Flash and 192 KB RAM give enough room for a moderate firmware image plus a few hundred kilobytes of data buffers; if your application needs more than that, you are looking at the STM32F4 high-density variants.
The 100-LQFP (14x14 mm) package is a standard surface-mount footprint — no special reflow profile beyond the usual lead-free solder curve. 82 I/O lines are available, enough to interface a parallel LCD, a memory bus, and several serial peripherals without a port expander.
The two 12-bit DACs and 16-channel 12-bit ADC handle analog front-end tasks.
