84 MHz Cortex-M4 with DSP and FPU — throughput for control and signal processing
The core includes a single-cycle DSP instruction set and a floating-point unit (FPU), which offloads math-heavy tasks like motor-control loops or audio filtering from the main loop. The 84 MHz clock is the system ceiling; the flash prefetch buffer and ART Accelerator keep zero-wait execution from Flash for most of the code, so the core can sustain its throughput without stalling on instruction fetches. That matters for tight control loops where every cycle counts.
This MCU includes a USB OTG interface, which allows it to act as either a USB host or device — useful for connecting to a keyboard, memory stick, or smartphone without an external USB controller. With 36 general-purpose I/O pins in the 48-pin package, there's enough headroom for a typical control board with a few sensors, an LCD, and a serial interface. The 10-channel 12-bit ADC captures analog signals from potentiometers, current shunts, or thermistors.
