Package and thermal: the 48-UFQFN exposed pad
This part comes in a 48-UFQFN package with an exposed pad (7x7 mm footprint). The thermal pad is the primary heat path — if you plan to draw continuous current through the I/O pins or run the core at full speed near the 85°C upper limit, stitch that pad to a ground plane with a grid of vias. The exposed pad also doubles as a low-inductance ground return for the ADC and DAC, which helps keep conversion noise down.
Peripheral set for motor control and sensor fusion
The STM32F071CBU6 includes DMA, PWM, and a WDT — the basic building blocks for a sensorless BLDC motor controller or a multi-axis stepper driver. The 13-channel ADC lets you sample current on all three phases plus a DC-link voltage in one conversion sequence. HDMI-CEC is also present, which is unusual at this price point and useful for consumer AV applications.
That means no last-time-buy scramble and no forced redesign for the next few years.
