TO-220FP full-pack — rework and mounting
The TO-220FP (TO-220 Full Pack) is a through-hole package with the die tab fully encapsulated in moulding compound. No metal tab is exposed, so you don't need an insulating washer or pad when bolting it to a heatsink — the plastic body provides isolation. Rework is straightforward: three through-hole leads, easy to desolder with a solder sucker or wick. The package is marked clearly, so orientation is not a problem under the hot-air station.
Gate drive and switching — 12 nC total gate charge
For a 100 kHz flyback, the gate-drive loss is negligible, but the 4 V threshold maximum at 250 µA means you need a clean 10 V gate drive to guarantee the lowest on-resistance — don't rely on 5 V logic to fully enhance the channel.
The 150°C maximum junction is typical for power MOSFETs; derate the drain current and power dissipation above 25°C case temperature per the datasheet curve. The wide low end matters for outdoor or cold-start applications.
