RS232 link-budget basics for the ST202ECTR
The ST202ECTR is a full-duplex RS232 transceiver from STMicroelectronics, packing two drivers and two receivers into a 16-TSSOP package. At 230 kbps the part comfortably exceeds the 115.2 kbps ceiling of most PC COM ports, so it won't become the bottleneck in a point-to-point link. The 500 mV receiver hysteresis cleans up noisy lines from long cable runs or electrically noisy enclosures — the hysteresis band sits above the noise floor of a typical RS232 bus in an industrial cabinet.
