Transient protection for 48V rails
Its 48V reverse standoff voltage suits 48V nominal rails, while the 1500W peak pulse power handles surge events from lightning, inductive load dump, or ESD. The bidirectional configuration means a single device protects symmetrical rails or AC-coupled lines without polarity concerns.
Clamping and surge current
When the transient exceeds the breakdown voltage of 53.3V, the diode clamps at a maximum of 100V while conducting 100A peak pulse current under the 8/20µs waveform. That 100V clamp ceiling defines the voltage stress the downstream circuitry must survive — a key parameter for selecting the DC-DC converter or load switch input rating.
The SMC body dissipates the 1500W pulse through the solder pads and copper plane — ensure adequate board-level thermal mass for repetitive surge events. No power line protection feature, so it's intended for signal or secondary-side DC rails, not mains.
