The 22.2V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the device does not conduct at the 20V standoff level, while the 32.4V maximum clamp voltage defines the worst-case voltage the protected circuit sees during a 19.4A peak pulse current event. For a 24V bus or a 20V regulated supply, this clamp voltage leaves headroom below typical downstream component absolute maximum ratings. The 600W peak pulse power is the energy-handling capability for a single 10/1000µs surge; for repetitive events or longer pulse widths, derate per the datasheet's pulse derating curve.
Housed in the standard DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package, the SMBJ20CA-TR uses a JEDEC footprint common across TVS diodes and Schottky rectifiers. The package supports standard reflow soldering; The bidirectional configuration means a single device protects both polarities, saving board space versus two unidirectional diodes in series.
