The STMicroelectronics SMBJ13A-TR is a unidirectional TVS diode in the SMBJ TRANSIL™ family. Its 13 V reverse standoff voltage means it stays transparent below that level. The minimum breakdown voltage of 14.4 V ensures the device does not conduct until the rail rises above regulation tolerance.

The clamping voltage maxes out at 21.5 V while carrying 29 A of peak pulse current. That 21.5 V ceiling tells you the downstream components — capacitors, regulators, the IC itself — need a voltage rating comfortably above that level. A 25 V rated MLCC on the rail would be marginal; 35 V or higher gives the headroom a reliability review expects.
