What the SMAJ70CA-TR protects and how it sits on the board
It clamps transients on a 70V nominal rail, with a minimum breakdown voltage of 77.8V and a maximum clamping voltage of 146V at 16A peak pulse current.
Rework and board-level handling
The DO-214AC SMA body is small enough that a hot-air station set to 260°C peak with a gentle ramp lifts the part cleanly — no pad lifting if you preheat the board to 150°C first. The cathode band is the only orientation mark, and on a bidirectional part like this one the band is decorative; polarity doesn't matter for the clamping circuit. MSL 1 out of the bag, so no bake required even after a long shelf dwell.
It's a standard production part from STMicroelectronics, available through independent distribution.
