Transient protection for 18 V rails
It delivers 400 W peak pulse power per the 10/1000 µs waveform, with a clamping voltage of 39.3 V at the peak pulse current of 59 A (8/20 µs).
The 18 V reverse standoff voltage means this diode will not conduct appreciably below 18 V, so it sits across a 12 V or 15 V rail without loading it. The 20 V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the avalanche region starts before the rail exceeds its absolute maximum. The 39.3 V clamping voltage is the peak voltage the protected IC sees during a surge — if the downstream part is rated for, say, 40 V absolute max, this clamp keeps it inside the safe operating area.
The SMA footprint is standard — no exotic pad geometry required.
