TVS protection in a compact SMA package
The STMicroelectronics SMAJ15A-TR is a unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) Zener diode from the SMAJ / TRANSIL™ series, designed to clamp voltage spikes on power and signal lines. It delivers 400W peak pulse power per the 10/1000 µs waveform, with a 15V reverse standoff voltage and a clamping voltage of 32.5V at the peak pulse current of 71A (8/20 µs waveform). Packaged in a DO-214AC (SMA) surface-mount case, it suits general-purpose overvoltage protection in industrial, telecom, and consumer electronics where board space is tight.
Voltage ratings and what they drive
Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 16.7V, ensuring the diode starts clamping before the downstream circuitry sees damaging overvoltage. The 32.5V clamping voltage is the peak voltage the load sees during a transient event; verify that your powered devices can survive this level for the pulse duration.
The wide range also supports reflow soldering without derating concerns.
