TVS clamp for a 6.4 V rail
Its 7.13 V minimum breakdown voltage and 14.5 V maximum clamping at the peak pulse current define the protection window — the rail sees no conduction below 6.4 V, and the clamp holds the spike under 14.5 V even at the full 600 W pulse. The single unidirectional channel means the cathode goes to the protected rail, anode to ground; reverse insertion blocks the clamp entirely.
Pulse power and current handling
Rated at 600 W peak pulse power per the 10/1000 µs waveform, the SM6T7V5A delivers 276 A peak pulse current under the 8/20 µs condition — the faster waveform typical of ESD or inductive-load switching. The 600 W rating is the energy-absorption ceiling for a single pulse; repetitive surges need derating per the datasheet thermal curve. For a 6.4 V rail in an industrial 24 V system or automotive 12 V battery line, this part handles the common load-dump and coupled transients without exceeding the junction temperature limit of 150°C.
The SMB footprint is shared across the SM6T family, so a layout designed for the 7.5 A variant accepts the whole voltage range without a board spin.
For dual-source planning, the SM6T family shares the same DO-214AA footprint and pinout across voltage variants, so a 6.4 V rail can be protected with the SM6T7V5A or a same-package sibling at a different standoff voltage if the rail changes.
