600W transient clamp in a DO-214AA SMB package
The STMicroelectronics SM6T68A is a 600W peak pulse power TRANSIL™ TVS diode in a surface-mount DO-214AA (SMB) package. It protects a single unidirectional line with a 58.1V reverse standoff voltage, a minimum breakdown of 64.6V, and a maximum clamping voltage of 121V at the peak pulse current.
58.1V standoff — what it means for a 48V bus
With a 58.1V reverse standoff, this part sits comfortably on a nominal 48V rail without conducting during normal operation. The 64.6V minimum breakdown gives a guard band against transients that ride on top of the DC bus, while the 121V clamp limits the voltage spike seen by downstream components. For a 48V telecom or industrial system, the margin between the rail and the breakdown voltage is about 6.5V — enough to handle most load-dump and inductive kick events without nuisance triggering.
