Product details

What this TVS protects and where it goes

The 600 W peak pulse power rating (10/1000 µs waveform) handles load-dump and inductive-load spikes common in automotive 24 V and 12 V battery-rail environments, as well as industrial sensor and actuator lines where symmetrical clamping is needed.

AEC-Q101 and the operating range

The 600 W peak pulse rating is derated linearly above 25°C per the datasheet curve — at 150°C junction the effective power handling drops, but the device still provides meaningful protection for continuous high-temperature operation. No power-line protection is built in; this is a transient suppressor, not a continuous overvoltage clamp.

Frequently asked questions

Is SM6T42CAY a bidirectional TVS diode?

Yes, the SM6T42CAY is a single bidirectional channel Zener TVS diode. It clamps transients of either polarity symmetrically, so you do not need to worry about orientation when placing it between the protected line and ground.
