The STMicroelectronics SM30T6.8CAY is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from the SM30TY TRANSIL™ series, qualified to AEC-Q101 for automotive applications. It delivers 3 kW peak pulse power (10/1000 µs) with a minimum breakdown voltage of 6.45 V and a maximum clamping voltage of 9.2 V at 327 A peak pulse current.
AEC-Q101 and full temperature range
AEC-Q101 qualification means this part is characterized and qualified for automotive stress grades — under-hood, chassis, and cabin domains where temperature swings and transient surges are routine. The -55°C to 175°C junction range covers cold-crank and under-hood soak conditions without derating concerns.
Clamping and surge ratings
The 9.2 V maximum clamping voltage at 327 A (10/1000 µs waveform) defines the protection floor for a 5 V reverse standoff rail. With a 6.45 V minimum breakdown, the device triggers before the rail sees damaging overvoltage. The 3 kW peak pulse rating gives margin for ISO 7637-2 pulse 5a/5b load-dump events common in automotive 12 V systems.
