Peak pulse current and clamping — what the 746A rating means
The 746A peak pulse current is specified for the 8/20µs waveform, not the longer 10/1000µs shape used for the power rating. That means the device can absorb very high short-duration transients — useful for ISO 7637-2 pulses in 12V automotive systems. The 13.4V clamp at that current gives roughly 2x the standoff voltage, typical for a TVS protecting a 5V logic or sensor supply.

Housed in the DO-214AB SMC package, this is a surface-mount device with a standard footprint shared across the SM15TY family. The SMC body handles the 1500W dissipation without an external heatsink, relying on the PCB copper pour for thermal spreading. The bidirectional configuration means a single device replaces two unidirectional TVS diodes back-to-back, saving board area.
