1500 W bidirectional TVS for 48 V / 58 V automotive rails
The STMicroelectronics SM15T68CAY is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from the TRANSIL™ SM15TY series, rated for 1500 W peak pulse power (10/1000 µs waveform) and qualified to AEC-Q101. Its 58.1 V reverse standoff voltage and 64.6 V minimum breakdown make it a direct fit for protecting 48 V nominal or 58 V max continuous rails in automotive ECUs, engine control modules, and body electronics. The 121 V maximum clamping voltage at the 83 A peak pulse current gives the downstream silicon a defined survival envelope during load-dump or inductive kickback events.
AEC-Q101 is the stress qualification standard for discrete semiconductors used in automotive-grade assemblies. The SM15T68CAY carries this qualification, so it slots directly into a production BOM without an additional PPAP waiver or component-level re-qualification cycle.
The SM15T68CAY is supplied in a DO-214AB (SMC) package, a surface-mount footprint common to 1500 W-class TVS diodes. The SMC body handles the 1500 W pulse without requiring a through-hole lead form, which keeps the assembly on a standard reflow line. The part is bidirectional in a single package — one device clamps both polarities, saving board area versus back-to-back series diodes.
